Qi Gong
Qi Gong is an ancient traditional Chinese healthcare system that works through the use of breathing techniques, focussed intention and physical postures. The movements are similar in nature to those used in the practice of Tai Chi, and are known for their relaxation and healing properties.
Specific exercises can be used to progress healing of particular areas of the body, and regular Qi Gong practice involving a variety of exercises can help to maintain a strong healthy body and a relaxed mind. Qi Gong is a very gentle, low impact exercise, suitable for people of all ages and physical conditions. This ancient method has been known to have a powerful impact on chronic conditions, as well as providing a means to prevent illness and disease.
Knowledge of Qi Gong exercises provides an individual with a powerful ability to maintain their own health, allowing independance and the flexibility to practice the exercises at a time that suits them. No tools or props are required in the practice of Qi Gong, making it an ideal exercise for people who are busy travelling or unable to attend regular classes or gym sessions to maintain a healthy level of exercise. Loose comfortable clothing is recommended and the exercises can be done in any quiet place the person chooses - from outside in the shade of a tree to at home in the lounge room.
Having studied to Advanced level Qi Gong with a well respected 14th generation traditional Chinese Master, Suzanne now uses many of the theories and exercises to support her clients in their kinesiology sessions.
Suzanne also offers regular Qi Gong exercise and meditation classes for small groups - please see below for further details or Contact Us.
Beginners classes
Each beginner level Qi Gong class runs for 1 hour, and is broken into 3 sections:
1. Theory – an important aspect of studying Qi Gong is to understand the theory behind it. In our Western culture we often have very little exposure to the Eastern practices in healthcare and the theories that support the practice. An understanding of the theory not only enhances the practice of Qi Gong, but also gives us an insight into a different culture and experience to that which may we have grown up with.
2. Exercises – 3 exercises are taught per session. The exercises are simple and low impact, and focus on basic movements timed with breathing phases. In some exercises we are also taught to open and close our eyes with particular positions, enhancing focus and relaxation. Handouts are provided to enable easier practice of the exercises outside of class.
3. Meditation – each session finishes with a short meditation exercise, teaching the basics of Qi Gong meditation to enable the student to practice longer sessions at home.
Minimum class size is 5 people, maximum size is 10.
Beginners Group practice sessions
Supervised practice sessions are also offered for those that have completed the Beginners class. Each practice session runs for 45 minutes and the group complete a number of exercises during this time. Knowledge of most of the exercises is assumed (the beginner class is a prerequisite), however this is an opportunity to ask questions and have your technique supervised. This is a valuable way in which to experience the cleansing and revitalising energy that practicing as a group provides.
